Villa Xini is a delightful first class villa in a traditional Gozitan style in the tranquil village of Xewkija, just a short walk from the pebbly beach of Mgarr ix-Xini and the dramatic cliffs of Ta' Cenc. The villa has a spacious open-plan lounge/diner, beautifully furnished with a rattan sofa and chairs and a superb oak kitchen with verde granite worktops. The huge veranda, which opens off the dining area, has a great view over the private south facing swimming pool (10 x 5.5m) and beyond to the surrounding fields with their almond, carob, pomegranate, cypress, olive and fig trees, fennel and prickly pears. There are two large bedrooms on the ground floor, one has a double bed and ensuite shower room and the other has three single beds. There is also a separate bathroom with bidet. The traditional stone staircase leads from the living room to an airy landing with a double bed and opens onto the large roof terrace with a great vista of the island. It can sleep 7 persons comfortably.
A short walk from Villa Xini leads down the valley of Mgarr ix-Xini (meaning 'the galley's landing place'). The swimming in the small fjord at the bottom of the steep single track is clean and suitable for children. The waters are dark, deep and clear against the sheer cliff face, offering excellent diving and snorkelling.
Xewkija is famous for its parish church to St. John the Baptist, known simply as 'the Rotunda'. Not only does it dominate the village, it dominates the entire island. The village has an eccentrically suburban air for an agricultural community. Men on ancient lilac-colored vespas roar nosily through the narrow twisting medieval streets wearing soup-bowl helmets and shot guns slung across their backs; a handful of people too old to work the fields sit beside their bamboo-slatted front doors awaiting the cool of the day, while tourists gawp at their cathedral-sized church. The single-most impressive feature is the dome, a 45,000 -ton structure set on eight columns.

Both bedrooms are very spacious and have high ceilings. One has a huge walk-in-closet while the other bedroom has a big antique wardrobe. There are white Chinese ceilings fans in all the bedrooms as well as on the landing area on the first floor. These are equipped with speed control.
The main bathroom is comfortable and spacious as well as the ensuite shower room. They are bright and sunny as they both have large windows with frosted glass. The sanitary ware and fittings are supplied by Ideal Standard.

Notes
Villa Xini is suitable for elderly or infirm and is also wheelchair accessible. It is within walking distance to most basic amenities including mini-markets, the local baker/buther shop, bank, church, pharmacy and hardware store. Moreover, the capital, Victoria, is less than 25 minutes walk.
Airport transfer can be easily arranged. Please email your flight schedule (flight number + arrival time) and we will meet you on arrival and transfer you to Villa Xini. Car/jeep/bicycle hire will be ready for your use on arrival at the Villa.
