Il-Marhab farmhouse is an authentic early 17th century farmhouse in Xewkija. It is within walking distance to the picturesque pebbly bay of Mgarr-Ix-Xini. You enter through the main stone arched hallway with patterned tiled floor into an open sunny courtyard lined with plants and a brilliant crimson bougainvillea. This leads to a large double bedroom with en suite bathroom. The wide stone staircase opens up to 3 double bedrooms (2 with en suite bathroom) on the 1st floor, a sunny loggia and an open terrace with views of the immense dome of the Rotunda church. It sleeps 9 persons comfortably. On the ground floor, there is the fully equipped oak kitchen with Venetian gold granite worktops, a carved dining table with 8 chairs, frost-free refrigerator, automatic washing machine, gas/electric cooker with hob and oven, cable TV, open fireplace and the main bathroom with bidet. Outside is a huge flagstone patio with 2 oval tables ideal for “al fresco” dining next to a bubbling fountain.
Xewkija is the oldest village in Gozo (population around 3,000). The mightily impressive Rotunda Church dedicated to Saint John the Baptist has the second highest dome, internally, in Europe (after St. Peter's in Rome) and celebrates its “festa” on the 4th Sunday in June. Similarly, the tiny pebbly beach of Mgarr-Ix-Xini (meaning the galley's landing place) which used to be the main port during the time of the Knights of Malta can be reached on foot or by car (the road is not for the drunk or fainthearted). It offers spectacular views of the emerald clear sea as well as the valley gorge below. Needless to say, it is great for snorkelling and diving - there are several coves to explore and enjoy.

Il-Marhab farmhouse is tastefully furnished with practical contemporary furniture and includes some antiques as well. The bright and very spacious bedrooms feature king/queen size orthopaedic mattresses, dresser, large closet space, modern lithographs hanging on the walls, and white Chinese ceiling fans with speed control. All bathrooms/showers are equipped with quality Ideal Standard sanitary fittings and Italian ceramic tiles. Towels and linen are provided at no extra cost and maid service is once a week. Il-Marhab farmhouse offers the discerning traveller to make the best of their quality time while on vacation. The medieval village of Xewkija is halfway between the port of Mgarr and Victoria, the capital, and is within walking distance to all basic amenities including mini market, bank, pharmacy, and the local baker and butcher. For those interested in archaeology one can see the monumental remains of prehistoric sites older than the Pyramids. The island of Gozo (population around 29,000) is 14 km by 7 km and therefore you can easily reach any part of the island in a very short time. Airport transfer can be easily arranged. Please email us your flight schedule (arrival time + flight number) and we will meet you on arrival at Malta International Airport (MIA) and transfer you to Il-Marhab farmhouse in Gozo. Car/Jeep hire starts from 15 Euro daily and includes comprehensive insurance. A car/jeep will be ready for your use on arrival at Il-Marhab farmhouse.
We have all had a wonderful holiday in your lovely farmhouse and all of the family have particularly enjoyed the superb swimming pool. We have enjoyed so many aspects of this beautiful island and were charmed by the peace and quiet as well as the friendliness of all the people we met. We were lucky that we arrived the week of St. John's festa and must have had prime position for the fireworks (a bit surprised by the 8 am start).
