Santa Croce, a former abbey in the midst of vineyards, olive groves and flower meadows, lays on an absolutely peaceful location, at the edge of a plateau between Orvieto and the Lago di Bolsena, an unspoilt lake with small fishing villages and idyllic beaches. The view extends over the valley of Lapone to the opposite villages of Viceno, Castel Viscardo and Benano with beautiful sunsets. The house is surrounded by shady, old trees, lavish lawns, two enchanted terraces and a fountain which was converted into the mini pool. The biological red wine that we cultivate all around Santa Croce is nowadays stored in the former church. The property was lovingly restored in the old style and was furnished with findings from all over the world. At two levels there are 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 1 large kitchen, 1 living room with chimney and gallery. We live 2 km away.

The kitchen is very well-equipped, very spacious and the large, vacant kitchen block invites to share meals. Another refrigerator and freezer are located in the additional 'jam kitchen'. Our gigantic pizza oven is superbly suited for a barbecue outdoors. There are several seating arrangements all around the house. One can reach a large terrace shaded by vines, offering a wonderful view of the valley and known by us as 'the sunset terrace', directly from the kitchen and from the living room. Here, surrounded by roses and lavender, one can spend comfortable hours and long evenings at a large dining table (for 10 persons). Various spice herbs grow right beside the kitchen door in old barrel-casks. One reaches the rustic 'balcony' with beam ceiling and further sitting accommodations for 15 persons from another living room door.
Our Mini-pool is ideal for children (80 cm deep). Here, the little ones can splash around wonderfully and the adults can also refresh themselves with a couple of swims.
Furthermore, there is a children’s' play house on stilts in the garden which offers variety.
After we received 20 accommodations for the short-list, we are really glad that we have decided on this idyllic spot. As we were already greeted so cordially on arrival, we felt very comfortable straight off. Through the numerous tips of our hosts and still many more, we could add to our planned excursion destinations. However, we also enjoyed quiet, relaxing hours in the marvellous garden. We wished to eat out daily, but we could not help cooking in the beautiful kitchen. The biological house wine also tasted excellent. We were positively surprised by the spaciousness and the luxurious facilities of Santa Croce as we were not used to this variety of facilities with other accommodations.' (Family Stief from Munich) 'Actually we wanted to discover Umbria ... but Santa Croce is so marvellous, we could hardly part from it and spent two marvellous and restorative weeks here!'
