Comfortable and old house on the outskirts (approx. 40 inhabitants), embedded between marvellous mountains. The typical Umbrian house was constructed approx. 250 years ago. It has thick natural stone walls and an old open fireplace that was used earlier for smoking sausages etc. The house was gradually restored in the last 20 years and brought to a modern standard with central heating, among other things, without compromising on the ambience of the original cottage. The ground floor offers a large living/dining room with TV, double sofa bed and a kitchen with dishwasher, refrigerator and freezer, and an open fireplace. You can also reach the partially roofed terrace and the garden from there. A wooden staircase leads you to the first floor (WC in the mezzanine floor), where 2 bedrooms are located, one with an access to the large bath and the other with an access to the second terrace (with stairs leading to the garden). A storage room with washing machine is located in the garden.

Rosciano is a small town between the Nera valley & Monte Polino, among mountains, valleys, fields, meadows & olive groves. The surroundings are characterized by a national park, i.e. new buildings are no longer permitted. The village was fully restored to its old structure & designed as a small jewel within the last few years so that there is no motor traffic through the old village with only a narrow path leading uphill. An adventure park can be found on the upper edge of the village. A village festival takes place once a year (End of May/ Beginning of June). In the surroundings you have hiking options, lovely open pools, fishing and wild water rafting in the Nera valley, water sport at Lado di Piediluco, whereas the waterfalls at Cascate delle Marmore and historic old towns like Ferentillo, Scheggino, Vallodinera as well as Spoleto (Music festival) are worth seeing. The specialties of the region, black truffle, red wine & olive oils are at reasonable prices.

Notes
The big antique and open fireplace is located in the kitchen/living room and is best suited for barbecues, roasting chestnuts etc. The total furnishing consists of heavy old wooden furniture, a satellite dish is provided for the TV. The washing machine is located in the storage room at the side of the house. Because of its thick, old natural stone walls, the house is pleasantly cool without air-conditioning in the midsummer and very cosy due to the central heating and the additional open fireplace in the winter. The ceilings in the first floor consist of antique wooden beams, the floors are in Cotto. The facilities are complete with crockery and cooking utensils including a German coffee machine. The garden is laid with flowers, trees and bushes, an outdoors barbecue is also provided.
Day trips are easily possible by car to Perugia (medieval center of Umbria, known for its historical centre with many churches, squares and historic architectural monuments of known artists, as well as museums and art galleries), Assisi (worth seeing, among others, is the perhaps best known church of Italy's St. Francis with the famous cycle of paintings by Giotto), Spoleto with the famous music festival (“dei due mondi“), Vallodinera (still relatively unknown outside Umbria, but an insiders tip, in terms of the completely preserved and restored view of a place), Gran Sasso (Italy's highest mountain), the area of the Etruscans around Tarquinia, Tuscania, Viterbo with the medieval town square and 'palazzo Papale' (place of the conclave in the Middle Ages) and also to Rome.
Culinary, specialties and village celebrations
You find delicious pizzas and Antipasti as well as good local wines at a distance of only 1 km uphill from the house in the direction of Monte Polino Countryhouse 7 Archi. You will also get very good pizza in Arrone (approx. 2.5 km) in the 'Al Portonaccio', while the 'Tre Archi' in Macenano (not only pizza but also noodles and meat dishes as well as desserts) can be recommended. The black truffle, which you can combine with almost anything, is the specialty of the region: not only pizza, baked cheese, Frittata (egg dish) but also trout or lamb with truffles are a delicacy. Many village celebrations take place in the surroundings in the summer semester, such characteristic processions, delicacies and folklore performances are to be enjoyed and admired in nearly every medieval place.
Sport
Apart from quite a number of beautiful open-air swimming pools, there are spas and lakes for water sport (Lago di Piediluco and Lago Trasimeno), white water rafting on the Nera river and sport fishing in the Nera. Endless hiking options are available in the surrounding mountains and valleys while there is an adventure park in Rosciano for the children.
