Florence
Home to the Uffizi galleries, Michaelangelo’s David, the world-famous Ponte Vecchio plus castles and gardens galore, the city of Florence is a major cultural centre and buzzing with life. Florence is a treasure trove of art, the heart of Renaissance Italy. The city is a must see and you have no excuse now because many flights companies offer you low cost flights to Pisa! The cathedral, or Duomo, was dates back to 1290 and sections were added to it over the years, it impressively huge dome by Brunelleschi, is an amazing sight and stands out from the skyline over Florence. Whilst in the city we recommend a visit to The Ponte Vecchio bridge, which spans the River Arno and is one of the world's most famous bridges, it’s also lined with jewellery shops should you want to treat that someone special in your life! For those of you wanting to continue spending some euros, Florence has an abundance of shops and open air markets that are guaranteed not to disappoint.
Siena
Moving on to Sienna (drop one ‘n’ if you want to be a true Italian!), this is true Tuscany! This is a much laid back place with a slower pace to everyday life than Florence. Its pedestrian’s streets make it easy to explore the area and ancient city walls for stunning photos. Towards the South of Sienna you will find picture postcard images with fields that seem to go on forever. When the sun starts to set why not settle down to one of the local wines including Montepulciano and Montalcino... belissimo!
Dec. 11th 2007: Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Apartment was in a great location. Near the Tower. Lots of local bars and restaurants nearby. Local corner shop ideal for groceries and wine. Red Line bus from the airport drops you off just round the corner. Facilities in apartment ideal. Shower small but plenty of hot water so thats the main thing. Thanks for an enjoyable stay. Gillian Douglass, Scotland U.K. - Oct. 30th 2007: We had a great week and our 8 and 10 year olds thoroughly enjoyed their first ever city break. The apartment is absolutely ideal as a base and in a great location to get to the station, the tower and Stretto Borgo. Strongly recommend Roberto's, the small store around the corner and particularly his great line in Tavola Rossa, some of the cheapest and best red wine we've had. The shower that everyone comments on was fine, admittedly small but the water was hot, which is what counts. David & Janet Joslin
