The 'Molino di Sermo' is situated in the countryside between the villages of Lamporecchio (1,5 km) and Vinci (5 km), the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci in the beautiful landscape of the Montalbano mountains with their picturesque villages, town and historical palaces. The nearby thermal baths, such as the Monsummano with its grotto or Montecatini Therme 2000 years ago used as baths by the Romans, are most inviting and worth a visit. The palaces of the Medici, like those of Cerreto Guidi, Poggio a Caiano or Artimino are very worth seeing. In Artimino Etruscan discoveries (2500 years old) were made, too. Another object of interest is the provincial capital of Pistoia with its medieval town centre, filled with 'the modern Italian life' especially when the weekly market takes place. In less than one hour you can get to Florence (40 km), Lucca (50 km) and Pisa (60 km) with their innumerable works of arts. The Mediterranean near Viareggio has beautiful seashores, dunes and pine forests.

In the garden there is a shower and a little paddling pool for the youngsters. Beside them in the little brook you can discover small animals such as frogs and crabs. In warm summer evenings you can watch the lazybones-families leaving the uninhabited part of the house and balancing one after the other on the electricity cable to the tall laurel nearby. The surrounding area is really rich in 'Flora and Fauna', a paradise for nature lovers.
Italian life
In the village of Lamporecchio there are all kinds of shops and in the new built supermarket COOP you can buy everything you need. The weekly market on Friday morning is very interesting and important for the 'social life' of the Italians. It does not mean only shopping fruits, vegetable and clothes, but meeting friends and neighbours and have their cafe or cappuccino with a 'brioche' or an 'aperitivo' in one of the bars together.
If you like Tuscanian wines, you should visit the 'wine-cooperative' where you can buy draught wine, different kinds of honey and olive oil from the region. Take part in the social life in Tuscany too! Visit the traditional festivals in Lamporecchio, Vinci and the surroundings that take place all summer. The banquets are excellent and afterwards you can listen to concerts or dance to live music till midnight.
