One lounge, 2 bedrooms with 3 bunk beds each, sleeps 12 people, running water from a source coming from behind the cabin, 300 m away from Walchen Lake power plant. Reachable by car, gas for cooking and lighting purposes available, wood stove for cooking and cosy warmth inside. Located in the middle of the German Alpine Association’s climbing garden. You can visit an interesting technical exhibition throughout the year at the Walchen Lake power plant and eat at the restaurant (if you don’t want to cook). Hiking and biking paths around Kochel lake, adventure pool “Trimmini” with sauna at the lake. Open-air museum “Glentleiten” for Upper Bavaria at 10 km away. Tours to the gorgeous mountains around the Kochel and to the Walchen lake. Benediktbeuern monastery with a gorgeous basilica is located 8 km away. Summer toboggan runs 10 km away, all winter sports are available. Suitable for family vacations and group conventions.

The wood cabin is simple and very cosy, Kochel Lake is located 400 m away from the cabin and offers at this point a gorgeous beach with lawn. A real insider’s tip! The power plant at Walchen Lake – still operating- stands as a technical masterpiece of its time. A new technical exhibition can be visited throughout the year. There is a small restaurant at the place, which can serve as alternative for oneself cooking. The adventure pool „Trimmini“ is located in Kochel town and offers a large water toboggan and a sauna. During the summer you have access to the lake, the theatre for local plays, the Franz Marc museum (reopening in Spring 2008), the large open- air museum “Glentleiten” which is located 10 km away. The Benediktbeuern monastery with its famous basilica is 10 km away by car. Right behind the cabin you will find the start of the hiking paths. From there you can begin your trip to all different kinds of destinations. Bikers will face here enough challenges!
Availability notes Arrivals are possible by arrangement. The cabin is handed over to the guests and taking back in at the end of the reservation time by the cabin keeper. Arrival time is from 4.00 p.m. and departure time is before 10:00 a.m. We will charge one night for the arrival and departure day.

Plenty of cookware, plates, cups, bowls and cutlery are available. Open kitchen and entertainment room two in one. Recreation options inside the bedrooms with setting area and tables. Seats in front of the cabin. Simple arrangement in shelter- style, furnishings adapted to the cabin, stable bunk beds with mattresses and wool blankets. Bed linen and towels must be brought by the guests. 2 flame- gas cookers available, gas lighting in the lounge and in one of the bedrooms. The cabin keeper will teach you how to use the lighting - gas mantles. Running mineral water is conducted directly to the water coming from behind the cabin from a “collected” source. Since the adventure pool “Trimmini” is located in Kochel, it is possible there to bath, shower, use the sauna and enjoy plenty of body cares. Spacious, closable WC behind the cabin.
Since the cabin is located on a private road, it is only possible to drive to the cabin in order to unload and load it. During the remaining time the car can stay -free of charge- on the public parking lot of Walchen Lake power plant, 200 m away.
Art and culture in Pfaffenwinkel
Pfaffenwinkel offers rich culture possibility during the summer. The Benediktbeurer concerts are the nearest option. But Oberammergau has also much to offer. This year, the plays 'Jeremias' –staged by Christian Stückl- and “John’s Passion” in ballet version by John Neumeier will be on stage. Besides, concerts will be held at Wies church, Polling Abbey Church and Wessobrunn Monastery. And those who loved it a little folksier can surely afford a visit or two to the theatre for popular plays in Kochel.
Famous people
Franz Marc use to paint in the region around Kochel and there stands its museum. Urfeld at Walchen Lake was the art home for his colleague Lovis Corinth. The atomic physicist Werner Heisenberg lived there occasionally. In nearby Murnau Gabriele Münter and Wassily Kandinsky lived and painted. The “Münter house” in Murnau, also called the „Russian House“, can be visited. The term “Blue Land” referres to this region and goes back to the artists’ movement “Blue Rider”.
