Enjoy the fantastic view from our house and forget about the daily routine. In our house you can be yourself again. Through a separate entrance, you can reach our attic floor apartment. You will also find a small hallway with wardrobe and telephone. The living room and the bedroom have access to the large and sunny balcony, which invite you to sunbathe. A small kitchen is integrated in the living room. The bathroom has a shower and a WC (hair dryer and cosmetics mirror).

Sights from Upper Bavaria: wonderful panorama, old cabins, the sky – Bavarian blue. Even the fairy tale king Ludwig II knew why he chose to build his castle Neuschwanstein, and his favourite castle Linderhof in the Ammergauer Alps. In the middle of the foothills of the Alps you will find the small well-vital resort Bad Kohlgrub. In only a few minutes by car, you can reach Oberammergau, Pfaffenwinkel with its churches and monasteries, or the fantastic lakes of the ‘Staffelsee’ region. We are proud of our mountainous location, Hoernle. Such sights are rather rare. The mountainous chain of the Ammergauer Alps, the Zugspitze and the peaks of the Alps that can be seen from 80 km distance when the foehn comes are unique views. If you are not that good at walking, you can take the Hoernle mountain train that will bring you up at 1500 m. You can relax yourself in the Hörnle cabin: there you can have a sandwich and a wheat beer on the sunny terrace. What could be more beautiful?

Our apartment has a large balcony, approx. 11 m², which invites you to relax in the summer and fall months. You can smoke only on the balcony. From the living room and from the bedroom, you have access to the big, sunny balcony. You will be very comfortable in our beds, which are equipped with back friendly mattresses and height adjustable linen. In our kitchen, which is integrated in the living room, you can find: kettle, bread cutter, coffee machine, toaster, hand mixer, pots and pens, as well as enough crockery. You don’t need to stuff your luggage with towels and linen. They belong to our service, without surcharge, and on request, the towels can be changed. The bathroom is equipped with hairdryer and cosmetics mirror. We are happy to organize a bread roll delivery service for you.
On request, we can fill your refrigerator with drinks for your arrival. If you arrive by train, we are happy to pick you up from the train station in Bad Kohlgrub (on request). On request, we also offer bread rolls delivery service. For families: buggy, stroller, children toys for 1 to 4 years are available (Lego, Duplo pieces, puzzle, children society games, etc.) Please inform us before your arrival, and we will put the games at your disposal in the house. You can rent a sled or a bob. Would you like to try Nordic Walking? No problem. We have 2 pairs of Nordic Walking staves. New: there is guided snow shoe hiking (organized by the Resort and Tourist Information Center).
Hiking and more
Our suggestion for the fall is Nordic Walking: a sport for every age. The high trail Hörnle (4.6 km), ort he moor trail (3.8 km), or the Geizenmoos- trail for professionals (15.5 km). All in all, there are 6 trails for you. New: High Nordic Walking Trail: 1490 m high. We can put Nordic Walking staves at your disposal. At request, we can organize a professional guidance for you. Enjoy mountain tours in the Ammergauer Alps, the largest nature reserve in Bavaria. Go on hiking in the biggest nature reserve of Bavaria: the Ammergauer Alps. You can walk aside from beaten paths. You have to see at least ones the Castles of the fairy tail king Ludowig II: Linderhof and Neuschwanstein.
The winter is here again!
Finally, you can find 30 cm of snow here. You can go to the slopes and start skiing. There are functional ski lifts available. The cross country skiing runs are prepared. New: there is a cheese dairy to be visited in Ettal. Besides from the famous Ettaler Monastery Liquerur, you should try the local cheese products, and watch how the cheese makers transform the local milk into semisolid sliced cheese, the special Ettaler Monastery cheese, as well as Yogurt, curd, cream and butter. From the small snack restaurant, you can enjoy the wonderful mountainous landscape. There you can also eat and drink from the various local milk and cheese products.
You can play golf in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Oberau (36 and 30 km from Kohlgrub, respectively). A further golf course with wonderful location and a fantastic view upon the mountainous chain of the Ammergauer Alps can be found since 1998 in Lechbruck am See. There is also the Golf course Gsteig, 26 km away
Ski information
Our vacation house is located at a height of 850 m, in the skiing region of the Ammergauer Alps. The ski lifts are within 3 km, and can be reached by the local bus lines. Our region Hörnle offers the best conditions for families: family skiing, drag lift, standard for professionals from Hörnle (1450 m), baby lift, etc. There are all sort of skiing courses for children and beginners. They can be booked in the Skiing School Sonnen, on location. You can also rent sleds or bobs. There are 16 km of cross-country skiing tracks. In Unterammergau (6 km away) and in Oberammergau (12 km away), the slopes have fresh snow. Within 36 km, you can reach the Zugspitze. The skiing tours enthusiasts will find good possibilities, and for the cross country skiing fans good tracks are available. If it happens that the whether is not so good, you can still enjoy one of the hotel saunas in the neighbourhood. At the moment, you can go on the Hörnle on tour skiing and with snow shoes.
