Description of Petite MaisonLa “Petite Maison“ is situated in a small village named Lagorce. In old days our little vacation home used to be a barn and horse stable with neither power nor water supply, and the roof and the ceilings in a state of decay. In a word, it was a ruin. The vaulted cave and the four foundation walls are now about the only parts that truly remained original. It was in 1995 when we started rebuilding and renovating the house. We did everything that is necessary - reconstructing floors and the roof, renewing and installing things - to obtain a nice and comfortable home. At the same time we tried to keep up the old style and way of building in order not to make it look much different from its neighbouring houses and maintain the cosy atmosphere that comes with this typical Southern French way of constructing.
... continuing ...In the basement, the vaulted cave is the room for all installations; the heating as well as a washing machine and a bike (for fetching fresh baguette in the morning) are to be found. In addition to this there is a fairly cool tempered room suitable for storing food or baggage. On the ground floor, coming from outside you step into a small Entrée from where you can choose to go into the living room, the bathroom or up the stairs to the second floor. In the living room the kitchen area is located on one side, a big dining table; a sofa and a cupboard furnish the rest of the room. Furthermore there is a small chimney for heating during the transitional periods. Slightly overgrown by tendrils of the wine - which give shade in the summertime – a small balcony on the southern side of the house enables you to enjoy breakfast in the morning sun. The bathroom facilities include a shower, a toilet, a sink and a stack. A window supplies the room with daylight.
... continuing ...On the second floor, not facing towards the street but the other, quiet, valley side, two sleeping rooms are to be found, both leading out on the roof terrace. Separating the rooms from the street facing side is a small corridor which also leads to an extra toilet. The terrace, bigger than the balcony downstairs is furnished with table, chairs, sunshade and deckchairs and offers a wide and terrific view over the valley and the forest. Also belonging to the house is a garden, about 200 m off the building and to be reached by a small path beginning just outside the house.
