Chateau de Launay in Loire-Atlantique

The former royal residence “Chateau de Launay” served originally in the 12th century as a border fortification of Brittany and as a seat for the nobility. In the 15th and 16th centuries it was a place of residence for the noble “Trotereau” family, of whom the nobleman “Francois Trotereau” was a member. In the 17th century it was taken over by “Knight André Simon de Launay” for use as a hunting lodge. Built into a hunting lodge. Prince “Henrie de Conde” once hunted in these woods. “Chateau de Launay” cordially invites you to relax as a guest within its historical walls. The roomy and secluded holiday apartments are located in the wings of the castle. The castle is situated in a 5.5 hectare park with a tree lined avenue and a forest, as well as two small lakes. Chateau de Launay is an ideal base for excursions to other castles, monasteries, etc.

“Chateau de Launay” is situated on the outskirts of a village in a 5,5 hectare park with forest, trees and 2 small lakes(fishing is possible). The castle has sections from the, 15th, 16th and 18th century, one section is from the 19th century. The owners live in the main castle building. The Swimming pool is 5 x 10 meters and 1.4 to 2.4 meters deep. Small grocery store, bar and baker’s in the town. Large supermarket in Chateaubriandt (10 miles away). 3 room house, approx. 105 square meters large in a wing of the castle. On the ground floor, salon with eating area, kitchen ( gas oven, microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator) Separate toilet. First floor One tower bedroom with bed (180 x 190cm) another bedroom with French style bed(140 x 190cm) Bathroom with toilet. Terrace with garden furniture and parking space. The furnishings in the rooms are mostly period pieces.

Garden table and chairs for four people are provided, as is a parasol. Loungers and parasol. The apartment is lovingly furnished with some antique furniture. Ground floor: large kitchen with dining area, Salon with fireplace over two levels. Separate toilet. On the first level, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom with toilet and bath. Beds 1 x140cm x190 (French style) and 1x180 x190 cm four-poster bed. A barbecue is available, please ask the owner.

Ideal for cycling holidays. By car: Sightseeing tours of the castles by the Loire. Historical locations like Vitre Nantes, Angers and others. Information booklets available from the owner. Golf courses located 15 and 27 miles away. Boating trips on the Erdre by night from Nantes, dinner included. Fishing is permitted on the two small lakes near the property. Fishing rods not supplied.

Swimming pools and castle

The swimming pools are located in the park near the main building. Beautiful inner courtyard with two towers from the 16th century. The right wing of the castle was built in the 15th century and was renovated in 1839. The fountains in the inner courtyard are fed by channels from the lake.
