The romantic oasis in the enchanted woods of the Massane. La Bergerie is a reconstructed sheepfold in the magnificent location of the little Pyrenees village Hameau de Lavail, in a valley inhabited since prehistoric times. The Bergerie is built on a 4000 sqm plot of land covered with cork and oaks and micocouliers typical for the Mediterranean. The apartment offers more than 55 sqm for a maximum of 4-5 persons with a spacious, nicely-furnished living room, kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms with excellent beds. Large French windows give way and offer a view on a sunny terrace with a wonderful view of the mountain peaks opposite. The murmuring of the mountain brook, the wind rustling in the treetops and a charm of ocean breeze and wild herbs is in the air. Here, the world is still in order. 'It’s beautiful', is often the first thing we hear from our guests when they enter their holiday apartment. Each apartment is furnished individually with a sense for colour and natural materials. All apartments have a spacious living room with a kitchenette and a dining area. A comfortable bedroom and the bathroom are to be found on the middle floor. A wooden staircase goes up to the mezzanine where a big double bed with excellent mattresses provides a cosy atmosphere. Your holiday apartment has its own terrace on the south side, which, in summer, is partly shaded by awnings. An oak table with six comfortable chairs is just the right place to be - from the early morning until a late evening dinner. Under the Mediterranean night sky in the open country, you can really enjoy life. Everywhere you are surrounded by scent of wild herbs and blooms. Ivy, jasmine and passionflowers are entwining themselves around the sunny terrace of ‘numero un’.

'Open views, a clear sky, vineyards, the scent of wild herbs, hot stones, take a stroll - once to go swimming then to the market or the restaurant. Cross legs, taste a vintage wine, swing the lead, come to rest. One almost never sees other friends, so early are they off in the morning, so late do they come home in the evening. When they say goodbye, we hear about gorges, castles, villages, beaches ...'

I have been to this region several times, without knowing about the jewel that is hidden up here in the mountains. How lucky we are to have internet where not much remains concealed.
