The Apartment at Syleham House in Suffolk, England
This simply furnished but elegant apartment on the river provides a safe and relaxing environment for fishing, walking, canoeing and cycling. A nearby lake offers sailing. You may spot a heron, a pair of kingfishers or some otters. It has easy access to the coast. To Aldeburgh and Southwold, and to the historic villages and cities of East Anglia, such as Norwich, Bury St Edmunds and Framlingham castle there are ca. 40 minutes. This is a great place for shopping in local farmers' markets and antique shops. The house is set in over 2 acres of unspoilt rural pastures with amongst others, a long walk from its boundary along the river Waveney. There is direct access to the river [which is fenced] and for those energetic children, we have a trampoline. Enjoy a barbeque and leisurely walks through the orchard where you will find a hammock for total relaxation. There are lovely pubs and restaurants nearby, including a Japanese restaurant and a fine deli in nearby Harleston and excellent fish.

There is a beautiful lake within a 5 min drive, where you can swim or sail. It is possible to hire canoes from an operator near Bungay, 10 miles away, and canoeing from the waterside at the apartment is ideal. We have a family sized Canadian canoe and a small rowing boat which you may use at your own risk. We have a number of life jackets available to borrow.
Bressingham Steam Museum and Banham Zoo
There is a wonderful steam museum for enthusiasts. Some of the engines date back to the 19th century. You can see old tractors, steam-rollers and locomotives. For the younger ones, there is a very beautiful carousel, great fun. Banham Zoo is really great for the children.
The Heritage Coast
A rural drive of 40 minutes takes you to the unspoilt coastline of East Anglia. Aldeburgh is a fine traditional English seaside town with pretty houses, great shops and delicious fish and chips. Southwold offers quaint streets and pubs and a very unusual pier with some eccentric amusements and art installations. It is really worth a visit. There are also many wild and less populated beaches that are within 35 minutes. These are often nature reservations with rare birds and other wild life.
