The wonderful, absolutely quiet house, with its distinctive red roof, is located in the middle of a 40 hectare large area with woods and meadows. The house is not far away from the locality River John. It is a short drive away from Northumberland Strait and Trans-Canada-Highway. In 2005, our house was completely refurnished. The big kitchen and the bathroom on the ground floor were renovated in 2006. The deck will be renovated in the spring of 2007, and it invites you to dine, to relax in the hammock and to admire the flower birds. In the evening, you can enjoy yourself by the camp fire or by the sundowners, while making plans for the next day. Videos, CDs and DVDs are available for the guests. River John is a 5 minute drive away from the house, and it is located in Pictou County, by Northumberland Strait. It is well known for the fact that it has the warmest waters north from Caroline. In town, there is a supermarket, a liquor store, medical service, pharmacy, post office and one of the best equipped book stores, with computers that are available to the public. A special summer event is ‘River John Festival’, as well as the literary festival ‘Read by the Sea’, where famous writers such as Alistair McLeod are invited. Piper’s Rest is about 1.5 hours from the Halifax Airport, where you can fly directly with Condor airline, for instance. Piper’s Rest is a good starting point for journeys, as it is close to the Trans-Canada-Highway. From here you can easily travel to Cape Breton, New Brunswick or Prince Edward Island.
Availability notes Bookings in the winter months are possible. You should take into account that in the case of adverse traffic conditions (snow), the access to and from the house will be more difficult, as our street is not cleared. However, the school bus passes two times a day on the street by our house, during the school time in Canada. The change-over takes place on Saturdays. We would kindly ask you to leave the house around 10:00 a.m., so that we have time to clean and prepare the house for the next guests. The arrival time should not be before 15:00 p.m., please.
